In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Russellville. The justice center houses the Pope County county sheriff, Russellville police department offices, and the Pope County Detention Center. The Pope County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Pope County Detention Center. Originally, the Pope County Detention Center could house approximately 2499 inmates.
