Jail History and Structure

In 1982, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Cortez. The justice center houses the Montezuma County county sheriff, Cortez police department offices, and the Montezuma County Jail. The Montezuma County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Montezuma County Jail. Originally, the Montezuma County Jail could house approximately 2051 inmates.
