Jail History and Structure
In 1977, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Georgetown. The justice center houses the Sussex County county sheriff, Georgetown police department offices, and the Sussex County Jail. The Sussex County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Sussex County Jail. Originally, the Sussex County Jail could house approximately 1985 inmates.
