In 1985, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Live Oak. The justice center houses the Suwannee County county sheriff, Live Oak police department offices, and the Suwannee County Jail. The Suwannee County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Suwannee County Jail. Originally, the Suwannee County Jail could house approximately 2451 inmates.
