Jail History and Structure
In 1988, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Adel. The justice center houses the Cook County county sheriff, Adel police department offices, and the Cook County Jail. The Cook County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Cook County Jail. Originally, the Cook County Jail could house approximately 1825 inmates.
Over the years, the Cook County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Cook County county.
Juvenile Detention Center
It is part and parcel of Cook County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Cook County Jail has a 152-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Cook County Jail.
