Jail History and Structure

In 1983, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Augusta. The justice center houses the Richmond County county sheriff, Augusta police department offices, and the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center. The Richmond County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center. Originally, the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center could house approximately 2462 inmates.
