Jail History and Structure

In 1981, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Challis. The justice center houses the Custer County county sheriff, Challis police department offices, and the Custer County Jail. The Custer County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Custer County Jail. Originally, the Custer County Jail could house approximately 2292 inmates.

Over the years, the Custer County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Custer County county.
