Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Peru. The justice center houses the Miami County county sheriff, Peru police department offices, and the Miami County Jail. The Miami County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Miami County Jail. Originally, the Miami County Jail could house approximately 2105 inmates.

Over the years, the Miami County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Miami County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Miami County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Miami County Jail has a 147-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Miami County Jail.
