Jail History and Structure

In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Onawa. The justice center houses the Monona County county sheriff, Onawa police department offices, and the Monona County Jail. The Monona County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Monona County Jail. Originally, the Monona County Jail could house approximately 1671 inmates.
