Jail History and Structure

In 1985, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Smithland. The justice center houses the Livingston County county sheriff, Smithland police department offices, and the Livingston County Jail. The Livingston County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Livingston County Jail. Originally, the Livingston County Jail could house approximately 1665 inmates.

Over the years, the Livingston County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Livingston County county.
