Jail History and Structure

In 1975, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Bardstown. The justice center houses the Nelson County county sheriff, Bardstown police department offices, and the Nelson County Jail. The Nelson County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Nelson County Jail. Originally, the Nelson County Jail could house approximately 1493 inmates.
