Jail History and Structure
In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Bangor. The justice center houses the Penobscot County county sheriff, Bangor police department offices, and the Penobscot County Jail. The Penobscot County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Penobscot County Jail. Originally, the Penobscot County Jail could house approximately 1474 inmates.
