Jail History and Structure

In 1981, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Centreville. The justice center houses the St. Joseph County county sheriff, Centreville police department offices, and the St. Joseph County Jail. The St. Joseph County county sheriff is the general overseer of the St. Joseph County Jail. Originally, the St. Joseph County Jail could house approximately 1795 inmates.

Over the years, the St. Joseph County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the St. Joseph County county.
