Jail History and Structure

In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Philipsburg. The justice center houses the Granite County county sheriff, Philipsburg police department offices, and the Granite County Jail. The Granite County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Granite County Jail. Originally, the Granite County Jail could house approximately 2488 inmates.

Over the years, the Granite County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Granite County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Granite County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Granite County Jail has a 157-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Granite County Jail.

The Granite County Jail comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center.
