Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Elko. The justice center houses the Elko County county sheriff, Elko police department offices, and the Elko County Jail. The Elko County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Elko County Jail. Originally, the Elko County Jail could house approximately 1961 inmates.

Over the years, the Elko County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Elko County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Elko County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Elko County Jail has a 121-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Elko County Jail.

The Elko County Jail comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center.
