In 1979, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Cape May Court House. The justice center houses the Cape May County county sheriff, Cape May Court House police department offices, and the Cape May County Corrections Center. The Cape May County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Cape May County Corrections Center. Originally, the Cape May County Corrections Center could house approximately 1502 inmates.
