Jail History and Structure

In 1978, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Kingston. The justice center houses the Ulster County county sheriff, Kingston police department offices, and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center. The Ulster County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center. Originally, the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center could house approximately 2151 inmates.

Over the years, the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Ulster County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Ulster County Law Enforcement Center but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Ulster County Law Enforcement Center has a 128-bed capacity.
