Jail History and Structure

In 1983, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown New Castle. The justice center houses the Lawrence County county sheriff, New Castle police department offices, and the Lawrence County Jail. The Lawrence County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Lawrence County Jail. Originally, the Lawrence County Jail could house approximately 1863 inmates.

Over the years, the Lawrence County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Lawrence County county.
