Jail History and Structure
In 1984, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Allentown. The justice center houses the Lehigh County county sheriff, Allentown police department offices, and the Lehigh County Prison. The Lehigh County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Lehigh County Prison. Originally, the Lehigh County Prison could house approximately 2170 inmates.
