Jail History and Structure
In 1981, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Knoxville. The justice center houses the Knox County county sheriff, Knoxville police department offices, and the Knox County Work Release Center. The Knox County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Knox County Work Release Center. Originally, the Knox County Work Release Center could house approximately 1511 inmates.
