Jail History and Structure
In 1987, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Dayton. The justice center houses the Rhea County county sheriff, Dayton police department offices, and the Rhea County Jail. The Rhea County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Rhea County Jail. Originally, the Rhea County Jail could house approximately 1520 inmates.
Over the years, the Rhea County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Rhea County county.
