Jail History and Structure

In 1978, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Sparta. The justice center houses the Monroe County county sheriff, Sparta police department offices, and the Monroe County Jail. The Monroe County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Monroe County Jail. Originally, the Monroe County Jail could house approximately 1507 inmates.
