Jail History and Structure

In 1989, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Wisconsin Rapids. The justice center houses the Wood County county sheriff, Wisconsin Rapids police department offices, and the Wood County Jail. The Wood County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Wood County Jail. Originally, the Wood County Jail could house approximately 1838 inmates.

Over the years, the Wood County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Wood County county.
