Jail History and Structure

In 1983, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown San Luis. The justice center houses the Costilla County county sheriff, San Luis police department offices, and the Costilla County Jail. The Costilla County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Costilla County Jail. Originally, the Costilla County Jail could house approximately 2301 inmates.

Over the years, the Costilla County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Costilla County county.
