Jail History and Structure
In 1978, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Taos. The justice center houses the Taos County county sheriff, Taos police department offices, and the Taos County Detention Center. The Taos County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Taos County Detention Center. Originally, the Taos County Detention Center could house approximately 1654 inmates.
