In 1977, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Cross City. The justice center houses the Dixie County county sheriff, Cross City police department offices, and the Dixie County Jail. The Dixie County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Dixie County Jail. Originally, the Dixie County Jail could house approximately 2411 inmates.
