Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Elberton. The justice center houses the Elbert County county sheriff, Elberton police department offices, and the Elbert County Jail. The Elbert County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Elbert County Jail. Originally, the Elbert County Jail could house approximately 2384 inmates.

Over the years, the Elbert County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Elbert County county.
