Jail History and Structure

In 1979, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Sandersville. The justice center houses the Washington County county sheriff, Sandersville police department offices, and the Washington County Jail. The Washington County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Washington County Jail. Originally, the Washington County Jail could house approximately 1964 inmates.

Over the years, the Washington County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Washington County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Washington County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Washington County Jail has a 135-bed capacity.
