Jail History and Structure

In 1978, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Fort Wayne. The justice center houses the Allen County county sheriff, Fort Wayne police department offices, and the Allen County Confinement Center. The Allen County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Allen County Confinement Center. Originally, the Allen County Confinement Center could house approximately 1905 inmates.

Over the years, the Allen County Confinement Center has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Allen County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Allen County Confinement Center but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Allen County Confinement Center has a 122-bed capacity. The Allen County Confinement Center comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center.
