Jail History and Structure

In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Rockport. The justice center houses the Spencer County county sheriff, Rockport police department offices, and the Spencer County Jail. The Spencer County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Spencer County Jail. Originally, the Spencer County Jail could house approximately 1601 inmates.

Over the years, the Spencer County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Spencer County county.
