In 1980, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Marshalltown. The justice center houses the Marshall County county sheriff, Marshalltown police department offices, and the Marshall County Jail. The Marshall County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Marshall County Jail. Originally, the Marshall County Jail could house approximately 1863 inmates.
