Jail History and Structure

In 1975, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Booneville. The justice center houses the Owsley County county sheriff, Booneville police department offices, and the Owsley County Jail. The Owsley County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Owsley County Jail. Originally, the Owsley County Jail could house approximately 1516 inmates.

Over the years, the Owsley County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Owsley County county.
