Jail History and Structure
In 1980, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Tupelo. The justice center houses the Lee County county sheriff, Tupelo police department offices, and the Lee County Detention Center. The Lee County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Lee County Detention Center. Originally, the Lee County Detention Center could house approximately 2110 inmates.
Over the years, the Lee County Detention Center has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Lee County county.
