Jail History and Structure
In 1988, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Fort Benton. The justice center houses the Chouteau County county sheriff, Fort Benton police department offices, and the Chouteau County Detention Center. The Chouteau County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Chouteau County Detention Center. Originally, the Chouteau County Detention Center could house approximately 1885 inmates.
