Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Havre. The justice center houses the Hill County county sheriff, Havre police department offices, and the Hill County Jail. The Hill County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Hill County Jail. Originally, the Hill County Jail could house approximately 2271 inmates.

Over the years, the Hill County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Hill County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Hill County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Hill County Jail has a 151-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Hill County Jail.

The Hill County Jail comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center. During working hours, the staffing ratio is 1 to 7, and during sleeping hours, the ratio is 1 to 11. The youth detained in the Hill County Jail is engaged daily to mitigate any room for idleness.
