In 1975, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Brooklyn. The justice center houses the Kings County county sheriff, Brooklyn police department offices, and the Kings County Jail. The Kings County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Kings County Jail. Originally, the Kings County Jail could house approximately 1894 inmates.
