Jail History and Structure
In 1980, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Fort Edward. The justice center houses the Washington County county sheriff, Fort Edward police department offices, and the Washington County Jail. The Washington County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Washington County Jail. Originally, the Washington County Jail could house approximately 2179 inmates.
Over the years, the Washington County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Washington County county.
