Jail History and Structure

In 1982, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Tahlequah. The justice center houses the Cherokee County county sheriff, Tahlequah police department offices, and the Cherokee County Jail. The Cherokee County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Cherokee County Jail. Originally, the Cherokee County Jail could house approximately 2293 inmates.

Over the years, the Cherokee County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Cherokee County county.
