Jail History and Structure

In 1976, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Canyon City. The justice center houses the Grant County county sheriff, Canyon City police department offices, and the Grant County Jail. The Grant County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Grant County Jail. Originally, the Grant County Jail could house approximately 1741 inmates.

Over the years, the Grant County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Grant County county.

Juvenile Detention Center

It is part and parcel of Grant County Jail but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Grant County Jail has a 120-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Grant County Jail.

The Grant County Jail comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center.
