Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Newport. The justice center houses the Lincoln County county sheriff, Newport police department offices, and the Lincoln County Jail. The Lincoln County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Lincoln County Jail. Originally, the Lincoln County Jail could house approximately 1826 inmates.

Over the years, the Lincoln County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Lincoln County county.
