Jail History and Structure

In 1978, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Dallas. The justice center houses the Polk County county sheriff, Dallas police department offices, and the Polk County Jail. The Polk County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Polk County Jail. Originally, the Polk County Jail could house approximately 1533 inmates.

Over the years, the Polk County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Polk County county.
