Jail History and Structure

In 1989, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Mercer. The justice center houses the Mercer County county sheriff, Mercer police department offices, and the Mercer County Jail. The Mercer County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Mercer County Jail. Originally, the Mercer County Jail could house approximately 1924 inmates.

Over the years, the Mercer County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Mercer County county.
