Jail History and Structure

In 1975, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Belle Fourche. The justice center houses the Butte County county sheriff, Belle Fourche police department offices, and the Butte County Jail. The Butte County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Butte County Jail. Originally, the Butte County Jail could house approximately 2044 inmates.

Over the years, the Butte County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Butte County county.
