Jail History and Structure

In 1977, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Bennington. The justice center houses the Bennington County county sheriff, Bennington police department offices, and the Bennington County Jail. The Bennington County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Bennington County Jail. Originally, the Bennington County Jail could house approximately 1426 inmates.

Over the years, the Bennington County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Bennington County county.
