Jail History and Structure

In 1986, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Newport. The justice center houses the Orleans County county sheriff, Newport police department offices, and the Orleans County Jail. The Orleans County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Orleans County Jail. Originally, the Orleans County Jail could house approximately 1497 inmates.
