Jail History and Structure

In 1982, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Williamson. The justice center houses the Mingo County county sheriff, Williamson police department offices, and the Mingo County Jail. The Mingo County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Mingo County Jail. Originally, the Mingo County Jail could house approximately 1543 inmates.

Over the years, the Mingo County Jail has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Mingo County county.
