Jail History and Structure
In 1983, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Morgantown. The justice center houses the Monongalia County county sheriff, Morgantown police department offices, and the Monongalia County Jail. The Monongalia County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Monongalia County Jail. Originally, the Monongalia County Jail could house approximately 1585 inmates.
