Jail History and Structure

In 1984, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Kingwood. The justice center houses the Preston County county sheriff, Kingwood police department offices, and the Preston County Jail. The Preston County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Preston County Jail. Originally, the Preston County Jail could house approximately 1608 inmates.
