In 1977, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Chippewa Falls. The justice center houses the Chippewa County county sheriff, Chippewa Falls police department offices, and the Chippewa County Jail. The Chippewa County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Chippewa County Jail. Originally, the Chippewa County Jail could house approximately 2102 inmates.
