Jail History and Structure
In 1977, a criminal justice center was constructed in downtown Gainesville. The justice center houses the Hall County county sheriff, Gainesville police department offices, and the Hall County Detention Center. The Hall County county sheriff is the general overseer of the Hall County Detention Center. Originally, the Hall County Detention Center could house approximately 1710 inmates.
Over the years, the Hall County Detention Center has undergone numerous modifications and eventually became one of the largest facilities in the Hall County county.
Juvenile Detention Center
It is part and parcel of Hall County Detention Center but deals with the detention and correction of offensive youths. The Hall County Detention Center has a 129-bed capacity. Counselling, health assessments, recreation, education, and intervention services are provided to the youth held at the Hall County Detention Center.
The Hall County Detention Center comprises three units: the girl’s detention unit, the boy’s detention unit, and the detention control center.
